The Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) is a species of baleen whale known for its characteristic body shape, with long pectoral fins and a knobbly head. It is an acrobat of the ocean, breaching and slapping the water. Humpbacks are found near coastlines, feeding on tiny shrimp-like krill, plankton, and small fish. Humpbacks migrate annually from summer feeding grounds near the poles to warmer winter breeding waters closer to the Equator.
